Hi. I'm Susan Farber, founder of Sol Aromatics, where I offer natural perfume-making experiences and aromatherapy workshops on California's Central Coast.
My passion for fragrance began in childhood when my mother gifted me a small perfume kit. As a child, I spent hours blending tiny bottles of fragrant oils, fascinated by all the different scents and the endless combinations I could create. Making fragrances for my mother and friends, I would become so absorbed in the process that time seemed to stand still. That early fascination eventually led me to study natural perfumery and aromatherapy with master teachers, deepening a lifelong relationship with botanical essences.
As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT), Certified Aromatherapist, and a graduate of the Tisserand Institute's Aromapsychology program, I bring a deep understanding of the connection between scent, memory, emotion, and well-being. This background gently informs my aromatherapy workshops and perfume-making experiences, helping create a space that feels personal, creative, and meaningful without being clinical.
At the heart of Sol Aromatics is SOL—the Spiral of Life, a symbol of growth, transformation, and life's journey. Representing the physical, mental, and spiritual development of a life unfolding through seasons and years, the spiral reflects my appreciation for how we grow and change over time. Through aromatherapy and natural perfumery, I explore how scent can ground us in the present moment and support us through periods of change.
I handcraft small-batch natural perfumes and incense using thoughtfully sourced botanical essences. I also create my own tinctures and natural absolutes using traditional methods perfumers have used for centuries. My aromatic garden is filled with fragrant flowers that continually inspire me, from the scent of roses that greet me during the day to the fragrance of night-blooming jasmine drifting through the evening air. My garden is one of my greatest joys.
One of the most rewarding aspects of my work is teaching. Through perfume-making experiences and aromatherapy workshops, I guide participants in creating a fragrance or blend that is uniquely their own. I enjoy helping people discover that they can create a scent that is both beautiful and deeply personal.
